I Can't Dance.

I've never been a great dancer. Ever. I was a wallflower at the stake dances and always admired my roommates who could groove. Shelese taught ballroom dance for crying out loud and Kari even had a stage name "Yolanda" - she really could move like a sista. I just feel silly and awkward when I dance slow and especially when I dance fast. Ugh, there are few things I despise more than fast dancing! I don't know if I just don't have rhythm or if it's a coordination thing, or if I can blame my size 9 1/2 feet? Unfortunately, Josh is a GREAT dancer, and with me as his eternal "partner", he rarely gets to strut his stuff on the dance floor.

I've never blogged about TV shows. I watch TV shows, and I've certainly commented on other blogs who post about TV shows, but I've been hesitant to do play-by-plays and post commentaries about what I thought of such-and-such TV show. My friends seem to do it so much better (much like dancing). I'm seeing a theme here!

But, I just have to post about So You Think You Can Dance. It's wonderful and fun and exciting and COOL! The first year I would watch it by myself while Josh stayed late at mutual and Boo was a baby. This past two years, I let him in on the fun and we watched it together and enjoyed it a whole lot!

All contestants have to work their way through a rigorous audition process, and the contestants vary from "I've never had a dance lesson in my life" to "I've been taking lessons since I could crawl". If they make it through that, they are assigned different dance styles and partners each week to test their versatility and skill. I love to see the different dances, costumes and music. We've been introduced to several new artists by hearing a song we loved on the show.

A few of my favorites include this contemporary routine by Mia Michaels set to a song called "Let the Drummer Kick". I thought it was quirky and fun, but looked really difficult to actually perform!

Another favorite was this routine where the dancers were a hummingbird and a flower. It's so pretty and I love that the guy Hok is a street dancer with ZERO professional training and his partner, Jamie has studied for years in a studio. The song is from the film Memoirs of a Geisha.

So, if you enjoy dancing or can't dance like me, go ahead and watch some people who can! Enjoy!

Very fun to watch! I've never seen the show! I really am not a dancer, either. I have just enough rhythm to sing "If you're happy and you know it" with my kids and get the claps in the right place. So, dancers fascinate me.
