Home Alone

JB is away at Youth Conference this weekend. He doesn't enjoy being away from us and he really hates being alone. I don't know if it's the years of being single, but I kindof like being by myself every once in a while. I feel like I can do my own thing (within reason...I still have children). I can rent a chick flick and watch it TWICE, I can go to bed early or stay up late reading my dear friend, Harry Potter, and I can fix the kids breakfast for dinner and no one asks, "So...is...this what we're having for dinner?"

JB's parents are really funny. When his mom goes on a trip by herself, leaving his dad alone, he will always go buy a big, huge steak to BBQ. When his dad goes on a trip by himself, leaving his mom alone, she always buys a new outfit. I'm thinking that could get kindof expensive?

However, on the rare occasion that I'm flying solo, I tend to want to order pizza, eventhough I have food in the fridge. I also feel the need to drown my "lonely sorrows" in ice cream, eventhough I really don't need it. Why is that? Am I the only one who does this?

What are your favorite things to do when you are HOME ALONE?

I really enjoy being by myself once in a while, too for all the same reasons that you do! oh the freedom!! :) plus it's just nice to have a little time away because then the reunion is so sweet.

Your post reminds me, I can't believe I don't have the new Harry Potter book yet!! I need to get that this weekend.

When Wil was out of town for almost a week, I think I only cooked once. We ate just about anything in the house that did not involve cooking. Little man slept a full hour later! I watched TV in bed and went shopping with a friend. Both my dad and brother spent evenings babysitting, so I could play (or go to enrichment). It was great. For some reason I felt like the routine didn't have to be quite so rigid.

That's how I feel too, girls. Good point about the sweet reunion. I agree. I talked to my mom tonight and told her that JB was gone for the weekend and she said, "Do you have your chick flick all picked out?" haha.

Mother Goose, the new Harry Potter book doesn't come out until July 21st. We are a month away, can't wait!!

I'm with you on the ice cream. Anything sweet and off-limits disappears the moment GoDad steps foot on the plane (for his business trips).

I think the ideal time for being apart is about a day and a half. The first day is just fun; the second day's fine 'til about five pm when the kids go wild and there's no one to relieve me of them; by day three I start to get resentful.

Well, I definitely don't make dinner except for the kids. Oh wait - I don't usually make dinner anyway. Ha ha. Poor Dave. I do like being home alone in the evening after the kids have gone to bed because then I can just watch tv or read or whatever. Oh wait - I do that anyway. Hmmm, I guess I really don't like Dave being out of town ever!
