I Winned

"I winned." This is how we declare victory in board games with the kids. Lately I've been feeling like I couldn't do anything right. I'm happy to report a few "wins" these past few weeks that I wanted to share to ease the worry, dear friends.

Win #1
Last night I was exhausted. I've been working on sleep training Diddles, and after checking out a bunch of books at the library (my favorite title "The Sleep Book for Tired Parents" ha, ha), I felt determined to TRAIN her. Riiiiight. Wednesday night she was went down at 9:00pm, after crying for a full hour, then was up again at 12:30am. I fed her, wondering if the crying had made her hungry (I know, I know), and put her back to bed, only to have her wake again at 2am. From 2am - 4am, I tried walking her around, patting her back, talking to her, etc. I finally gave up and fed her at 4am and crawled back in bed only to have her wake up again at 5:30am for the day. I didn't even recognize my reflection, I was THAT tired. Last night I braced myself for another night. She went down at 8:30pm. Started crying at 12:00am, I let her cry for 10 minutes alone and she fell back to sleep at 12:10 and slept until 2:30am. I fed her at 2:30am and changed her. Back to bed for her and me until 6:30am. I got (brace yourselves) SEVEN hours of sleep! SEVEN. It was heaven. I feel like a new woman. Do I expect it to happen again tonight? Heck no. Will I relish this day and this feeling? ABSOLUTELY.

Win #2
We just got back from our grocery store. We live in a college town, so we're mostly in line with college kids getting junk food or beer. We went needing to get some babyfood for Diddles. After selecting a few overpriced containers, we rounded the corner to find a cart FULL of discounted babyfood! There aren't a whole lot of babies around. It was awesome! Each container was more than half off. I'm not one to brag about my savings, but I got each of these for $.49, friends! The kids had fun "organizing" them when we got home, and Yaks wisely said, "When Diddles' food containers gets all gone, we can recycle it. Recycling is making somefing new out of somefing old!"

Win #3
Our garbage disposal finally went out, so we called our property managers. Early in the winter we noticed that we could hear a banging sound in one of the air ducts that ran through the wall of our bedroom. We thought a bird may have been caught in it and was flapping around to its death. We called the mangers and they said (and I quote), "Can it wait until Spring?" It wasn't urgent, and eventually went away. So, imagine our surprise when Dave-the-repair-guy showed up in his truck last week with his tool belt. The kids were in awe to see a real repair guy "just like Handy Manny". He took a trip to the hardware store, and left his tool belt. The kids had a hard time "looking with their eyes". Dave was awesome. He looked like a cowboy hippy with long, wavy hair, round sunglasses, but he also wore cowboy boots and Wranglers. The nicest guy. He even crawled on top of our roof (in cowboy boots) and fixed the rattling cap on the vent that was the culprit of all the banging when the wind blows (which is ALL THE TIME). Hooray for fix-it guys!

The Coveted Tool Belt

Win #4
I renewed my subscription to Scholastic book orders (since I technically teach a preschool class), and discovered that I had stored over 2,000 bonus points from when I taught school! I was able to order a bunch of books for the kids, and for gifts and a little something for myself.

Harry Potter Boxed Set!

(working on) Win #5
Boo was asked to give Article of Faith #4 in Primary this Sunday. Josh has challenged her to memorize it, so we've been working on it a little each day. She's relying more on her reading skills than her memory, and wants to read it when she loses her place or gets stuck. It's really cute to see Yaks chime in with the correct word when we're working. So, this one is almost a win, but not quite. :) And, as you'll notice, that baby tooth still hasn't come out yet, but ready or not, the permanent one is already coming in behind it!

(Pardon the off-the-shoulder nightgown)

Have you had a WIN this week?
You KNOW I want to hear about it!

I believe this week I will finish the last Harry Potter book, which has been awesome. Since I'm usually studying after work, I chalk this one up as a win! Way to cash in those points, by the way.

I read this post this morning before the school drop off and then scored a fabulous garage sale on the way home! I got a ton of cute stuff for me and Livs! And I immediatly tthought of you! Then for Ethan's birthday (monday) I stopped at Fred Meyers to get him a Nintendo DS. And even though it wasn't posted as on sale I got it for $30 off what I thought I was going to get it for! Another win! And it is only noon!
