Boo's tooth is loose, and what's more, her permanent tooth is coming in right behind it, shoving the loose one out of the way. It's driving Josh crazy. He wants to yank that thing outta there. I think we still have a good two weeks left before it's loose enough to pull it without traumatizing the girl. Approximately 12 times a day, she will come over to me and say, "Mom, is my tooth okay in there?" I ordered a helpful book we've been enjoying called "The Tooth Book: A Guide To Healthy Teeth and Gums" by Edward Miller. It's an informational book that presents everything about teeth in a very simple, funny, and clear way with illustrations that are clear, but not gory. It covers baby teeth, losing teeth, permanent teeth, brushing, flossing, tooth decay, cavities, fillings, dental hygienists, dentists, eating healthy, etc.
Diddles got her first tooth last week, and she's been cutting another this past week. It's been kind of hard on all of us (no pun intended). Before long, she'll have two pearly whites on the bottom. I'm not sure if the faucet-nosed cold is a result of the tooth, or if it's just a lovely BONUS that we get to have both joys at the same time.
I recommend these little Safe Feeders.
We've put cold apple, cantaloupe and pear slices in them so she has something cold to chew on.
It's awesome, and she loves it!
After she cut her first tooth, she slept all night. Well, she slept until 4am, and then went back to sleep until 8. I call that sleeping all night! I think we've turned a corner. Hooray!
While Boo is at preschool, Yaks is free to come out of his shell and do whatever he wants to do without any distracting demands from his sister. He usually chooses to build something. We get every bucket of toys that we have handy and we build until there's no more stuff to build with.
To the untrained eye, this just looks like a big dump of toys, but in his eyes, each little piece is in its correct place. Then of course, we can't wreck it (this scene alone took us an hour to build), so we're walking around it all day until we have to put it away (I have to re-sort all of the stuff back into the bins they belong in). A small price to pay for the joy on his face!
We had a fun RS meeting this past week called "Summertime on the Palouse" (The Palouse is the area in which we live). We shared ideas of things to do in the summer around here, and we asked the groups to create a skit, sort of advertising things to do and see. I was assigned two short commercials ahead of time. The only thing I could think to do was one of my rhyming poems (which many of you have experienced as a card or invitation), so I did that and put it to a rap (that's right, I said RAP).
I'm here tonight to tell you 'bout the Reaney Pool,
It's the perfect place for kids who are out of school.
The pool opens up on June 12th, it's true,
so listen to this info that I have for you!
It's open one-to-seven, every single day,
so come splash in the water (every day but SUN-DAY!)
Come to Reaney Pool where the water's cool!
Don't be a fool, get to Reaney Pool!
The cost is two dollars for kids, it's true,
Three bucks for big kids like me and you!
Let your kids come to the Reaney Pool,
Use it-as-a behavior managment tool!
So don't sit on the couch this summer and drool,
Come swim and cool off at the Reaney Pool!
Call 338-3221 for more information,
and now my rap is DONE.

I tried to make it funny, but after I performed it and sat down, I felt completely ridiculous. The people who didn't know me well now probably thought I was totally insane. (Groan) It was perhaps a shell I shouldn't have come out of...just yet anyway. Well, if it doesn't kill you, it makes you stronger, right? Right? (crickets chirping) Oh, gosh.

Oh Ames. I can hear you rapping that little number! Ha ha. That's awesome. Do you guys do the whole "Tooth Fairy" thing in your home? I remember how exciting that was.
Tim, I thought she would be totally jazzed about the idea of the tooth fairy, but when I told her she would take her tooth she got all upset. She said she wanted to KEEP her tooth and didn't want the tooth fairy to come. We'll see if she'll warm up to the idea.
We've got the same faucet mouth and nose. Constant baby shirt changes. Yuck. but, one tooth in...
Wish we had a baby less slobbery andmore able to sit on his own. I'm jealous of the time it looks like Eliza spends sitting up and playing on her own. Can't wait until that day. He's close, but not real close.
I am glad you at least gave the rap a go...hey, if you make a friend from it, they know what they're getting! I'm sure they were entertained...much better than other boring presentations, right?
I'm wondering if you could make a fancy little box to KEEP her lost teeth in. Making it a mommy'daughter "bonding" moment might even add extra charm to it ;) Maybe even cut a little slot in the top for a generous fairy to still drop a coin or too, for Jane bravely depositing the tooth in (and KEEPING it there) A bit nasty, I know...but it'd get you a few calm years of her assured that the teeth were not taken away and then when they are really gross, I'm guessing she won't care as much...and the box could conviently be "lost."
Oh Amy...you just make me smile! I would have stood up and cheered! Abbs would love to read this and would be so proud of you! I am going to tell her to make sure she reads it! We all love your blogs..from loosing teeth...to getting new ones! Now I want to hear a rap about that one! Maybe that is the trick to help Jane with this new change in her life! hehe Love you guys! Nana
What your commercials did for me was to make me think, that woman is so cool. I wish I were that confident. :)
Awesome! Don't let any old R.S. sisters discourage you from coming out of your shell and being creative like that. You must remember that artists are often misunderstood. :) I love Yaks' creation - see it runs in the family.
I love that you did a rap! How funny. I bet they're all trying to figure out how to become friends with you now.
That is awesome. You should PROUDLY come out of that shell, because that is the Amy we all know and love. Good for you, I loved the rap.
I love all of Diddles faces and I need that book. I'm on the search. Also wishing Emma's tooth was as loose as Janes. Her permanent tooth is far behind the baby teeth. Looking forward to the big news when the tooth is finally gone.
I'm sure they were just in silent awe of your amazing rhyming abilities. That's so funny- We've all had those cricket-chirping awkard-moments. Mine usually come after telling a story that I think is really funny and no one laughs. Uhhh....
Thanks for the birthday gift! We are excited to open it on the big day. Thanks for thinking of him!!
