Happy 8th Birthday, Yaks!

Dear Yaks,

Happy 8th birthday!  What a big birthday it is.  I've been so proud of you and your preparations for your Baptism.  I feel like you are really ready.  You've been working hard marking your scriptures, memorizing your Articles of Faith, and practicing making good choices.  I'm excited to see how the Holy Ghost will help you in your life.

This has been a great growing year for you in school!  Mrs. Bringhurst has been an amazing teacher.  She cares about both your academic and social progress, and she's been so helpful in helping you navigate through those things.  You've improved in both your reading and your writing.  You enjoy math and PE the very most.  You have kind friends, and most importantly, you ARE a good friend.

You sure have become an expert at teasing, much to the dismay of your sisters.  You know just the buttons to push, and just the way to push them, to send them over the edge into screams and/or tears!  I feel badly because I realize it's mostly a need for attention.  Many "time-outs" have ensued, and it's frustrating because we know you are capable of the kindest behavior.  I hope we can get to the bottom of it, before your sisters "unfriend" you!  You are the middle child, and the only boy. I know you wish for a brother, or someone else to do "boy" things with.  We're still trying to help you find your "thing".  We hope to support you in your interest that you find you enjoy.

One talent you've really found is with chess!  You learned to play in school from your classmates and the countless indoor recesses you have at school.  We've downloaded an app on the ipad, and you have fun playing the computer, and of course, winning!  I don't have a clue about the rules, but you have a lot of fun challenging Dad or Boo to matches.

You have been plowing through your Scout book, even though this is your first week as an "official" scout.  You really enjoy Scouting, setting goals and accomplishing them.  Reminds me of someone I know...
Scouts will be wonderful and fun for you, and Dad is there, which is an added bonus!  You guys do a lot together.  Just last night you worked together to instal some hardware so we can pull back our kitchen curtains.  They look great!  Thanks for doing that.

You love a clean house, and have taken to see a need and just fill it.  "Mom, this house is a mess. I'm going to clean it up."  Thank you!!  We're working on you not being an "angry cleaner".  I was guilty of that as a youth as well.  My brothers used to call it Amy's "cleaning frenzy".
