School Year's Eve and First Day

Last night we had our first annual Back to School Eve party following our Meet-the-Teacher night at our school.  I had the school kids choose their favorite dinner, and we had a little feast/celebration of going back to school.  So many ideas on Pinterest, but I didn't have time for any of them.  This is the best I could do.
Happy School Year's Eve!

Found these fun wooden napkin rings at Goodwill.  Get it?  School of fish?

They chose ravioli and home made marinara sauce, corn, salad and rolls.  Oh, and A&W root beer.  It was fun, and they felt really special and celebrated, which was the goal.  We're also preparing for our trip to Canada today after school, so we've been in a flurry of activity preparing for BOTH events.

Grilled chicken and mozzarella ravioli, delicious marinara that simmered all day.  YUM!

Happy kids

Last night Boo came into our room around 11pm, stating that she "couldn't sleep".  She was teary, and I think she was both overly tired, as well as anxious.  She found out yesterday that the 3rd grade rite-of-passage "Typing Camp" would be taking place the days we will be gone to Canada. She's worried about falling behind, and I think she feels really torn between missing that and going on our trip.  Urgh.

Yaks pitter-patted into our room at 5am, sure that it was 7:15, and worried he would be late to school!  "Yaks, it's DARK outside...why would it be 7:00?"  He wasn't sure about that, but was up for the day.  I couldn't fall back to sleep, so hey...Happy First Day of School (yawn) Everyone!

Boo - 3rd Grade

Those are size 6 1/2 in WOMENS, people!

Yaks - 2nd grade

3 1/2 this year!

We walked the kids over to the school, and helped them find their lines in the sea of strollers and cameras and new, stiff backpacks.  It's a fun morning.  So exciting!

Reuniting with friends

Stood in line for 15 minutes, so he wouldn't be "late".
**We just learned that our new/used minivan has a leaking radiator, that will need to be replaced.  Of course, they don't have the part, and they didn't "catch" that $600 defect before we bought it one week ago.  Will we make it to Canada?  Stay tuned.  Maybe Boo will get to go to typing camp after all!  ;) **

Everyone looks great. Your kids have big feet. Wow! Boo looks so pretty with her braces. Hope the fist couple of days have gone well. I'm dying to hear about Canada!
