Easter 2012

"Oh, it is wonderful that He should care for me
Enough to die for me!

Oh, it is wonderful, wonderful to me!"

I Stand All Amazed, Hymn # 193

Happy Easter! Isn't it wonderful!? I saw this painting on a blog that I follow, but I'm sorry I don't know the artist. I think the title is "Risen". I just love it its powerful subtlety.

We had a nice, relaxed Easter, following a very non-eventful Spring Break for the kids. I think they were ready for some fun by the weekend, and I felt so badly that we hadn't really done anything or gone anywhere. They were pretty excited to head back to school! :/

We dyed Easter eggs on Saturday. Advice: You may think plastic Silo cups are a great, disposable idea to put egg dye in, but they aren't very stable, and might get tipped. So long, Orange!
I think it had been two years since I allowed them to dye eggs, so this was a REAL treat!

Saturday night we assembled some Easter baskets for the kids with a few surprises. I managed to compile enough brain cells to do a poem for each hiding place.

Boo: "When the toilet is clogged, we must go get the plunger. So check out your basket, where our clothes go to launder." (Laundry Room Hooks)
Yaks: "We hope you aren't carsick when you pick up your treats. Find yours in the place that's behind the back seats!" (Back of the car)
Diddles: "You love to put stuff in this 'no-no' place. We hope your basket puts a smile on your face!"(The air vent in the wall. The kids loved using the screwdriver to get it out! She likes to stick my debit card in there. It's like a little game where I always lose!)

We had Stake Conference on Sunday morning. We survived it. Yes, kids had on some pastel Easter clothing and their hair was combed. No, I didn't get a picture because I was "girding my loins" for two hours of Stake Conference on metal folding chairs. You understand, don't you friends? Diddles entertained herself by emptying the Seminary bookshelf and took it upon herself to check every light switch to be sure it worked. It was quite possibly two of the longest hours in recent memory.

When we got home, I got started on dinner. Ham, asparagus, fresh fruit, salads and rolls. Boo helped me fold these napkins into bunnies (Thanks, Pinterest!), and Josh went out back to get a little egg hunt set up.

Our weather Saturday was cold and windy. Sunday's weather was not-as-cold and windy.

Instead of making rules that they can only pick up 12 eggs (gotta keep it even, folks!), we gave them two assigned colors each to seek and find, with a new-to-us-this-year "Golden Egg" for each child, which had chocolate gold coins inside. The kids thought it was wonderful.

The "Golden Egg" hiding in our "Golden" grass :(

Diddles was asleep for the Senior egg hunt, so the kids were "egg"static for her to wake up so they could take her on her first egg hunt! Remember little Diddles two years ago? Look at that precious baby with her precious egg.

Look at that...Oh, dear.

In her defense, she didn't want to wear Yaks' outgrown car shoes. She was wearing her "Dess", so she wanted proper shoes to match.

Here we go!

Well, that was just the sweetest thing to watch her steppy-step around after those kids, finding eggs.

Diddles' little present was this little stuffed bunny. She LOVES stuffies, I don't really get it, but she's a very tactile person, and anything soft and fuzzy is just wonderful to her! She carries them around and rubs their soft fur on her lips and cheeks.

Speaking of tactile, she has still not forgotten that she burned her hand on the gas stove. Poor baby.
She loves her Daddy. If I ever make her sad during the day, she shrugs her shoulders, turns up her hands and says through broken-hearted, crocodile tears. "Dada...go...work!?"

A cute quote from Yaks.  You know how he is such a ponderer:
Yaks:"You know what I really can't remember?
Amy: "What's that?"
Yaks: "What Jesus said to us in Heaven."
Amy:  "Yes, I don't remember that either."
Yaks:  "But you know what's really nice?"
Amy:  "What?"
Yaks:  "Jesus helps us remember that we lived with Him in heaven."

I'm so grateful for Easter and springtime, and the chance it gives me to reflect on my Savior, to restart and renew and rededicate my life in living as He would and did. He lives, and He loves us more than we can comprehend. Sunday night Boo and I were reading in the Book of Mormon in 1 Nephi 19:9
"And the world, because of their iniquity, shall judge him to be a thing of naught; wherefore they scourge him, and he suffereth it; and they smite him, and he suffereth it. Yea, they spit upon him, and he suffereth it, because of his loving kindness and his long-suffering towards the children of men."

Happy Easter, everyone!

Glad someone I know actually did the bunny napkins. I saw them, like them, and would have made them if I were hosting...

The golden egg sounds interesting. I want to know more about that? A story behind it?

I LAUGHED at the then and now pictures of Eliza. Don't you love two-year-olds and the way they insist on things.

LOVED the next picture down, too. Her carefully placing her PRETTY CHURCH SHOES down the stairs on the way to hunt.

Looks like a fun time. Happy Easter/Spring to you guys!

I love the idea of color-coded egg hunts! I'll have to remember that. I'm also very impressed by the bunny napkins. You made it pretty special for your kids!
