Favorite Things: Bountiful Temple

Hello, Bountiful Temple! In the winter you can see it glowing in the darkness through the snowy, bare trees out the kids' windows. It’s beautiful. A few nights ago, we were out for an evening drive, and the kids wanted to drive up there to see the temple. We headed up 4th North and wound our way up the mountain to the temple. The kids squealed with delight when they saw it. I got a lump in my throat as I listened to them chatter about the temple and seeing Jesus inside. How quickly I take for granted the opportunity to have a temple literally up the hill from my house, when just a few years ago, I had to gas up my car and check on the traffic channel to make sure I’d make my session in time after the hour-long drive to the DC Temple. I’m ashamed that I can probably count on my hands the number of times that I’ve attended the temple since we’ve lived here. How much more convenient can you get?

And yet, just seeing it as I run errands around town fills me with peace and confidence that there it sits – patiently waiting for me to get my act together to walk through the doors and spend some time within its walls. I remember after I finally weaned Yaks and felt comfortable enough to be away from him for a few hours, I went. I remember having a little conversation with Heavenly Father and apologizing that it had been so long since I’d come. I heard him say, “I’ve missed you. I’m glad you’re here.” I’ll never forget that. It was a wonderful feeling.

Our closest temple will be the Spokane, WA temple (not sure of the distance away). Although I won’t be able to see it out my window each day, I hope I can take advantage of the blessings and promises that await us in our Temples.

The Spokane Temple looks like an exact replica of the Columbus Temple. I was just there yesterday for the first time in a while -- despite forgetting my recommend due to our early start time for the 2 hour drive. Thank heavens we found the bishop at home so I could go in. It felt good to be there!

I love this list of yours! Again, I couldn't agree more. Just so you know, my name is in the cornerstone of the Spokane Temple. We lived in Coeur d'Alene when I was in junior high school and helped contribute money to build that temple (back when church members had to do that). Our stake had many projects to raise temple funds, but the one I remember most was getting up at 4 AM and changing sprinkler pipes in the farmers'fields.
