Ode To Binkie

When Yaks turned three, we knew the day had arrived

To throw you in the garbage and say our goodbyes.

You’ve been so faithful and always there

for the illness, the tantrum, and for comfort and care.

Many midnight trips we’d make to the store

to replace the ‘broken’ binkie, then we’d say, “Nevermore!”

“We’re done buying binkies.  This has gone too far!”

Yet we’d still find ourselves charging two blue binkies to the card.

But Yaks’ teeth are skeewampus and his lisp though so cute

Are things that you’ve caused and that just will not suit.

That first night without you was a dark one indeed.

It took Yaks two hours to finally fall asleep.

The second night was better, though mom shed some tears

Lamenting that we relied on you for sleeping all these years.

And so our Yaks has been learning to find his own dream land.

We sing songs, and talk about stuff, laying “wiff him for leet-o why-o” while holding his hand.

Three whole weeks have crept by; I’m tired as you can tell

For when we ushered you out the door, his naps departed as well.

This mom used to enjoy two hours of sweet quiet and peace

And now that you’ve gone away, that has all but ceased!

I passed by a package of you the other day, dear binkie

I wanted to buy you – I saw you winking!

But my little buddy’s on his way to becoming a big boy.

The fact that he’s been able to get over you, fills me with pride and joy.

He’s into soldiers, as you know - he’s been brave and strong and true

Cause if he’s going to really grow up, he’ll have to do it without you.

And so I thank you for your service to our family

But those services are no longer required – With love, A-my.

I love your poems. This is fantastic! Make sure to put a copy on the baby book. He'll love it when he gets older!

Love it! You still have the poetic touch I see. Way to stick to your guns with the binkie...I'm afraid I'd just give in.

Priceless poetry!!

fun to read...and relive all the past binkie spots (such as back seat of the truck!)

Oh the end of the Binkies. Such a sad day. Olivia had a binky fairy come. She decorated a bag to send them off in return for a prize. It worked pretty well, until we went to her cousins house who still had one.

as for clothes storage? Yikes I had 3 towers of Rubbermaid totes stored by size next to the water heater. I gave all the girl stuff to my sister and the boy stuff to Ranae. I stored shoes in old bedding bags so that I could see what they were. And I always stored coats no matter the size in a winter box. But it does take up a lot of room no matter how you store it. good luck and can't wait to see what you are having!

You are my hero! For real.

We are saying goodbye to the binkie this weekend. Any advice?

Fare thee well, binkie. May you die a thousand deaths.

Angie - that is me in the last picture. Another run back into the house for our most important item, the binkie.

Thanks for the poem compliments. Remember when I used to write those little poems all the time? I haven't done one in forever, and it felt really good.

Train- I'll e-mail you some tips on the breaking of the binkie.

Beautiful, just as your poems have been since the day of magnet poems on the fridge. :) Congrats on being binkie free!
