Magic Eraser, Where Have You Been All My Life?

Another casualty of January came when Yaks got his unsupervised hands on a Sharpie Marker and used our white family room wall as his personal canvas. When questioned as to why he would do such a thing, he replied, "Nobody would get me sthum paper, so I had to dwah on duh wawls!" Sounds reasonable.

I immediately e-mailed my friend Trish, who experienced a similar tragedy on her basement walls, and asked her what I should do, and she offered a few suggestions. Several remedies were attempted, but finally Josh just decided to repaint (it needed it anyway, or so we'll tell ourselves). So this...
Led to this (camera phone pictures taken by Boo):Saturday was paint day, and while Josh was busy priming walls, I went grocery shopping and picked up a Magic Eraser while I was out. I remembered a friend in our ward listing it as her "Favorite Thing" at a Favorite Things party we had around Christmastime. I figured it was worth a shot. It took a little muscle, but the Magic Eraser removes Sharpie Marker!Repeat...The Magic Eraser removes Sharpie Marker, friends! We'll proceed with the repainting, but should something of this nature occur again, we know what to do!

So, the next time one of your walls or furniture items is defaced by a toddler who has turned desperate due to the lack of paper supply in his/her life, don't despair. Pick up a pack (or two, or three) of Magic Erasers.

You're welcome. :)

We used a washable paint when we did our apartment. That combined with a Magic Eraser and I've been able to get crayon, marker and poop stains off or our walls. Oh how I love Magic Eraser! So glad you found it.

Three cheers for you -- you got a freshly painted room AND you're ready, should there be another attack. Glad I could help!

The magic eraser has been used many times around our house too! I noticed at Target the other day that there is such a thing as a "magic eraser" mop refill. I wonder how far that might stretch on my terribly filthy kitchen floor. I might give it a try...

How great (in the end) that you got fresh paint up. That's got to be a clean feeling!

Well . . . at least you have a newly painted room! You need to read my daughter's post from yesterday about a similar incident: thebonnymess.blogspot.com
Unfortunately, I don't think the Magic Eraser will work on faces.

Oh, yes. I love the Magic Eraser. I buy them in bulk at Sam's Club. I don't have sharpies on the wall anymore, but they do wonders for those strange, unidentifiable smears around the doorknobs and light-switches.

I too love the magic eraser. We haven't experienced sharpie on the walls but a heavy dosing of crayon and pencil. It took it off but I have to say it lightened our paint ever so slightly in those places. I feel like it needs paint to cover those areas. I think your probably best covered to just repaint. Thats what my S-I-L did when her son drew on there living room walls with a thick permanent marker.

They work great for getting dirt off walls without taking the paint off! I use them also to clean our baseboards.Melamine Foam Bulk
