One year my brother went in search of Christmas early. Not in search of the Christmas spirit, but in search of the presents! I think he found everything under my parents' bed. He opened every shopping bag and knew essentially every single item that each of us were getting for Christmas. Mom was disappointed in him, but not as disappointed as he was on Christmas Day to not only know everything he was getting, but everything EVERYONE was getting. It ruins the surprises, and surprises are half the fun, don't you think?
We've been trying to figure out what to get Boo for Christmas for weeks. She's a tough one because she isn't the type to beg and plead for anything in particular, and she doesn't really show interest in any one type of toy. She's not really into dress-ups (our closet full of Josh's belts and my shoes suit her just fine) or dollies (as I type, she's encouraging her live bee-bee, Yaks to go to sleep) or that sort of thing, and her ideas change depending on what toy she just saw in an ad or at the store. So, Saturday Boo and I went grocery shopping, and Josh took Yaks to try to find something wonderful for her Christmas present.

When the boys got home, Yaks ran downstairs and said, "Boo, we got you _______ and ________ at duh toy stow, and it's in duh back of duh car! Wanna come see your pesents? Okay, let's go! (he said with a fist-pump)" So much for Christmas surprises. At least we stopped him before they crawled into the back of the car to check out her stash.
I got home from church and saw on the counter some Christmas stocking candy for Josh that I had strategically placed behind the oatmeal so he wouldn't find it.
Amy: "Where did you get this candy?"
Josh: "I found it while I was looking for brownie mix, along with _______ and __________ and _______. Were those for Christmas?"

My mom and I go shopping on Black Friday at the crack of dawn. I love the sales and it's nice to be able to give the thumbs down on toys that will drive me batty, but it means that I know 90% of what I'm getting for Christmas too. That part isn't so fun. I miss being surprised by Santa.
Uh man!! Finally when you come up with something...
Let's just hope that she forgets by the time it is put under the tree.
Matt took Meg shopping for Paige a few days ago. When they returned home she loudly announced "Paige I GOT YOU A.....Crocodile!!" (obviously NOT what was bought_ Thank goodness she covered up the real present with something that couldn't be found in the back of the car!
I love their Christmas outfits!!
They look so happy in their red Christmasy outfits. What darling kids you have! You need to ask Sandi where she hides the gifts at her house. I hear neighbors have used the same spot too. Josh should just quit making brownies I guess.
Classic! I still remember the let down it was for me on Christmas day when I opened a Cabbage Patch doll crib (I had found under my parent's bed days before)and tried to act surprised. It got worse when I said, "Thanks mom!" and she replied, "It wasn't me...thanks Santa!" Ah man!
I know what everyone gets every year, including myself, because I bought it, wrapped it, and put it under the tree. Rarely a surprise for me at our house but I kind of like it that way. For kids though, I agree that surprises are best. There's nothing better than watching anticipation.
