"This morn renews for us that day when Jesus cast the bonds away,
Took living breath, and conquered death." - Hymn #198 That Easter Morn
Easter fell on General Conference weekend this year, so you know what? I didn't worry about cute Easter outfits and pictures with daffodils and rushing out the door to get to church with curled hair. It was awesome!Took living breath, and conquered death." - Hymn #198 That Easter Morn
All week we've been doing our scripture study on the last week of the Savior's life. Thanks to this little chart from Sugardoodle (my kids LOVE charts), we were able to count down the days and tape up a picture after we read what happened that day and talked about it. I can't find the link for the life of me. Sorry about that.
Ideally I like to do the "commercial" part of Easter on Saturday, and leave Sunday for remembering Christ. However, this year Josh took Yaks and Boo to Spokane for the day so Diddles and I could rest. She's been down with a cold and has been miserable all night. We had to shuffle things around a little, which was fine.
My mom used to hide our Easter baskets and she would write a little rhyming riddle for each one to tell us where it would be. My sleep-deprived brain couldn't even match two rhyming words together, so they got these cards that said,
I actually had a nightmare that night that I turned the dryer on and had sidewalk chalk all over the inside of the dryer.
Confession: My kids don't know about the Easter bunny. I started to kindof explain it this year, and Boo looked at me like I had boogers in my nose. It felt so ridiculous! An Easter bunny who hides colored eggs and brings baskets of goodies? We didn't dye eggs this year either. I'd be the only one who would eat them. Is that horrible?
"Happy Easter! Look in the place where we put our jackets."
Note: I didn't say "where we hang up our jackets." Striving for accuracy here.
This little egg-head was content to just sit and observe.
She was totally content with her little purple egg.
We missed having any sort of egg hunt this year with friends or family, so we did a little one in the house, since it was blustery and cold all weekend. The kids got instructions to find 12 eggs each.
Boo ended up with 15. We need to work on our counting, I guess.
I let the kids play with the bag of empty plastic eggs during the day. They had fun matching the colors and gathering them up and hiding them, until Josh stepped on one-too-many, and "hid" them in the garage.
(Josh took all these photos, but I think this one is so pretty with the colors.)

For dinner we had overcooked ham, lumpy twice-baked potatoes, woody asparagus, pretzel jell-o salad that didn't have enough sugar. I thought I would cut the sugar in half to make it more "healthy" (Josh: "Don't mess with perfection."), baked bread which the kids didn't eat (since the store was out of roll dough). The only perfect thing was our beverage and our dessert of ice cream! haha. You can't win them all!
Although dinner was a flop, General Conference was a triumph, and I enjoyed watching it, and thinking about our Savior, His life, example, and sacrifice for us. What wonderful messages and testimonies were shared - some just for me! I feel renewed and hopeful and recommitted to the Gospel. I can't wait to study and review the talks!

You are on the ball to do the cart leading up to Easter. Way to go!
I love reality posts like this! Those boogers are impressive (and gross)!
I, too, loved having Easter fall on Conference(had mom not passed skirts our way, I would have opted out of the new dress look). Thankfully less rush!
I like the idea of a letter/poem sending the kids on a hunt for baskets. We are in the "I saw the fluffy tail turn around the corner of the house." There are days I wonder if there might just be such a thing as too much pretend.
My favorite picture of the bunch is Jane at the tableful of colorful eggs. Way to go on grabbing camera. Looks like you guys had a good time.
(and, I hope you and the babe get/are feeling better) best wishes.
Your blog is fun to read. =) We didn't color eggs either, but that's because I miscalculated how many eggs I would need for making deviled eggs, and how many eggs I needed for a few other Easter dinner dishes. Oh well, we'll color eggs next week!
Oh man, that was hilarious. The gross booger picture and then the "looked at me like I had boogers in my nose" explanation... LOL! I'll laugh about that one at random moments throughout my days to come. :) too funny. Happy Easter!
If it's any consolation, we didn't dye eggs either. I usually do this the night before Easter.....Why? I have NO idea....but this year, Grant was sick and Rick was worried about dehydration so to appease him, I took him to the ER and spent 2 hours waiting to hear, "You're doing all that you can. You can go home and keep up the good work."
We didn't have any vinegar either and I didn't want to break the sabbath to purchase some and do eggs on Sunday either so we'll just try again next year :)
