Last night I watched a little KBYU special on Salt Lake City in the 40's. It was so charming! People used to dress up (hats, gloves, lipstick, heels) and spend
all day downtown, shopping at Cress' and Auerbach's, going to movies, having sandwiches, chocolate sodas and malts at the "counter", dancing, etc. Why don't we dress up anymore? It's really a pity. It looked like such a fun time and place to be. Everyone looks so happy and healthy and
not in a hurry. Teenagers would take the trolley car out to Saltair and dance the night away or swim in the Great Salt Lake (eeeuuuuu). I went to bed wishing that I could time travel to those days and just sit and watch what life was like.
This is a fun little site if you've got a few minutes.
Yearbookyourself.comDownload any picture of yourself, and then fiddle around with the size and the tilt and you come up with what you would have looked like in yearbooks of the past! Ready for some fun? Let's try it.
Amy in 1950 (that's as early as it goes). I just need a little red lipstick.
(1952) Do I look like Donna Reed? I used to love that show.(1966) My Dad's sister, Janet used to have hair like this. It's pretty close to my own hairstyle, but not as poofy. Should this concern me? (1974) Oh, I always wished for long hair.I just don't have the patience to grow it out. I'm more of a short-hair kind of girl. Just for fun, I thought I would see what Josh would look like.
1956 - Perhaps we may have met each other on the dance floor of Saltair?Oh wait. I can't dance. Maybe I would have charmed him with my looks alone? We'll meet you downtown, and all go get a chocolate soda at Auerbachs!

Your 1966 picture looks just like your mom! I know I've seen that picture in my mom's front room.
Amy, those pictures are hilarious. I will definetly have to try doing that especially because since I don't have a camera right now (I guess your in the same boat too), I can't post any recent pictures. That one of Josh actually looks very realistic. I miss you guys :)
Maggie, I forgot my mom styled her hair like that too!
Cara, I'm just trying to get creative in the absence of the old camera.
It's a toss up between 1966 and the fro! In all seriousness, I wouldn't have minded (?) growing up back then..the 1950s-60s. Good wholesoem times! So are you taking in those photos to your next hair appt and just saying, "surprise me!"
Haha. Oh, Kari you make me laugh! You got me. Can you imagine the look on her face? hahaha.
Awesome! I love the 1966 pic, and Josh looks very suited for that era. His face fits nicely with the hair! I like how you are "making the best of it" without your camera. We have a Winnie the Pooh Book titled "Make the Best of It" and it's a often repeated theme around our house. Good job, Ames.
You and Josh look like a match made in heaven.
Oh, thanks for the belly laughs! That was amazing. Now that you bring it up, you do kind of remind me of a 50's mom who would always have hot cookies waiting for your kids after school. The one of Josh looks so natural, no photo magic detected. I would be a 40's mom if I could choose. I love the high heels and long coats, but then again, I sure like my capris the most.
Oh my goodness! that was hilarious! You're a babe in all decades.
