My New Swimmy Suit

Next to buying pants, buying swimwear is one of my least favorite items for which to shop. I don't look horrendous in swimwear, but I just don't feel comfortable wearing it! Even in a one-piece, I feel so....exposed. We've been taking the kids to swimming lessons at our neighborhood rec center for several months, and although my suit technically fits, I just don't feel comfortable wearing it, especially when chasing kids around the shallow end, bending over, etc. I just needed a suit with a little....MORE. Last week we made our weekly venture to Costco to buy bread, milk and eggs, and I spotted a Jantzen swimskirt suit. It's a total "mom" suit. You know, the long tankini top, with the skirt that "covers". Nice. There was an older lady there browsing the table too. I passed by, trying to talk myself out of even looking with phrases like, "I'm only 31." "Although I do have a few pounds to lose, I don't need a suit like that...yet." And finally, "What would Cath say."

JB knows of my insecurities of all things swimwear, and he encouraged me to just go choose one. And so I did. And we bought it. Although I'm not too crazy about the top, for the price I can just use the skirt to toss over the other suits I already own.

Are you still my friend eventhough I wear a "mom" swimsuit?

I'm impressed, I sincerely like it and you can't go wrong with black. I especially like the halter wrap neck and back, I think it's flattering. Good choice. Now I'm re-thinking my Target swimsuit purchase that's still sitting in the bag with tags attached. It's not screaming "quality or comfortable coverage" and that leaves me screaming.

I love it! And who cares - it's about coverage! :)

I don't think it's a "Mom" suit at all. I think it's totally cute! I like the piping on the top and the halter ties. I would love to find something like that.

I love it... and I resorted to a "Mom" suit about two years ago. Because, you see, that's what I am, and at this point, my body is showing it's wear. No worries, Ames, you'll look great

Haha, I totally have a mom swimsuit, too. You just have to have something different for sitting by the pool keeping the kids' heads above water than you do for actually swimming and/or sunbathing. I got mine from Lands End at the end of last swim season and it's more like a tank top with shorts than an actual suit. I love that the bottoms don't get snagged on the edge of the pool--that's my number one swimsuit pet peeve!

I don't think that's a mom suit.. I think it's just darling! Very 1940's chic.. my favorite period for great feminine style!

Thanks for the book recommendations. I will put them on my library list!

Great suit Args! Halter tops are seriously where its at. I'm thinking about getting mine this year from Shade because the top overlaps the bottom by three inches! http://www.shadeclothing.com/Product/Womens/Modest/Swim/NewPort_Swim_Top
I'm also considering getting the "skirt" bottoms...more practical I say!
